Perhaps the shortage of flowers on the East Coast at the moment has incited my current love affair with floral print this season.
I mean, at this point, compared to the lush greenery that was present this time last year, it's practically a barren wasteland.
There's barely any signs of life other than the chirping birds who flew all this way and now will certainly starve to death on account of there's no flowers for them to suck, to eat, to live.
Luckily, my fate isn't as dire, and I can always bring sand to the beach, albeit a garden, but you get the point.
I just need to say that no animals were injured, maimed, or killed in the making of this blog post. First of all, I love all of Sweet Baby Jesus' little creatures, and I just couldn't do that even for the sake of having a super soft, just drop dead gorgeous mink coat grace my virgin body.
I've seen all those rappers like Yeezy decked out in chinchilla and an assortment of other high quality furs, like it's their second skin and not the remnants of some really cute animal.
But, while I pass no judgement, wearing fur is just not for me mainly becasue I'm a broke ass, and that kind of luxury is not in my budget, and I would rather not resort to laying on my back to secure this prize. Besides, that would be a lot of back laying and I seriously don't have the stamina.
Secondly, I would rather slit my wrist and bleed out than have PETA knocking on my door, hounding me, or trying to throw that red paint in my face, which I'm sure probably has some type of super flesh eating bacteria mixed in for good measure, because I know in their book people who wear fur should perish slowly and in extreme agony.
So, I play it safe and rock out in faux fur. Besides, I'd rather not have Bambi or Simba die on my behalf, just so I can live out some sexy fashion fantasy. I have enough blood on my hands from all the leather I wear and juicy steaks I eat. I don't need paint on my face too.
TGIF! Right before Thanksgiving the genius that I am ran out and bought a pair of super skinny, skinny jeans. Truth be told, the fit is amazing, but it was nothing more than the work of Sweet Baby Jesus that they made it over the hump that I like to refer to as my ass.
The notion that the skinnies fit like a glove is an understatement, as I know for a fact that gloves aren't quite as tight, bordering on the imminent strangulation of my precious digits.
These skinnies, which I paired with a moto jacket, blouse, scarf, and pumps, didn't exactly cut off my circulation, but clearly the overstuffing of my piehole during Thanksgiving will probably lead to some restricted blood flow at best.
Hell, that's if they even make it over my thighs after second and third helpings of turkey and pie. Obviously, it's definitely going to be close because these skinnies left no room for error, let alone ever-growing cellulite.
Surely, I could abstain and eat a normal portion, but it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the excess and the gluttony followed by sloth, which is a given after scarfing down enough food to feed a small family. After that kind of endeaver, I'll be lucky if I fit into any of my other clothing let alone my new skinnies.
Happy Hump Day! I have to admit that it's cold out, but not cold enough to whip out the triple fat goose, or the head to toe chinchilla, like we're in the Tundra.
Trust me, in the wee hours of the morning when the temps are hovering in the where's my hat, scarf, and glove zone, I'm tempted, but as the day progresses and I'm stripping off my clothing like someone's making it rain, I realize that we're not there yet.
Although, with the shit Mother Nature has been pulling lately, you just never know. After all, I did just experience a hurricane, a snowstorm, followed by a few days of mild weather, all in the span of two weeks.
Shit is very biblical right now to say the least. It's to the point where I'm seriously on the look out for locust. However, until then, I will follow the forecast and dress accordingly.
Now, it seems like it's Fall again. So, I paired a turtleneck with skinnies, double breasted blazer, pumps, and headed out to face my day. I hope you enjoy yours. Thanks for stopping by<3
TGIF! Yesterday, I layered my graphic sweater with a shirt and trench coat, paired with skinnies and pumps to face the cooler temps. It's been a very long week due to all the drama that Hurricane Sandy created. Mother Nature really put the smackdown on the East Coast, and now so many people are suffering.
Although my area wasn't affected in a significant way, to see all the catastrophic damage to other NYC neighborhoods that I'm familiar with is beyond amazing, and really sad. I truly hope that this disaster isn't a prelude to what the Mayans predicted.
With all the deaths, flooding, fires, homelessness, and destruction of entire neighborhoods, I can only conclude that December 21, 2012 is going to be one hell of a day, pun intended.
Fingers crossed, the Mayans were way off, and those predictions will not come to fruition. However, just to be on the safe side, I plan to spend my time being kind to my neighbors and fellow human beings, starting by donating to the American Redcross to help out with the Sandy disaster.
I'd rather stack my cards in favor of not going to that hot place with that rachetty bastard with the pitchfork. I heard he's a real son of a bitch, and that just doesn't sound like a good time, at least not for an eternity. So I'm going to do my part, and hopefully it pays off in the end.
Happy Monday! The weather was perfect this weekend, which was awesome, but sort of inconvenient, in an oh my God I haven't shaved in days, and now I have to wear a dress since it's so beautiful outside, kind of way.
I mean prior to this weekend, even though my BF would adamantly disagree due to the whole prickly leg situation, there was no valid reason to engage in hair removal, especially when the body part in question is fully covered, and out of sight due to the cooler temps.
Sure smooth soft skin would be nice. You know that unattainable type that some bitch model flaunts in your face for some beauty product, which no matter how much of it you slather on all over your body, you won't come close to ever in your life achieving.
Shaving my legs to get that smooth soft skin would be great, but I'm lazy, and the extra five minutes it takes in the shower to shave could be better spent, especially when layers of clothing will cover everything any way.
However, this weekend, as it was warm enough to lose the layers, there was no hiding, so I gladly shaved. I opted to wear a dress, which I layered with a blouse, paired with pumps, and I went out and enjoyed the beautiful weather hairless and all.
I had the opportunity to attend the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference (IFBCON) a few weeks ago. I decided to wear a dramatic peplum top paired with sandals and camouflage skinnies, which is ironic since this print does the opposite of allowing you to hide or blend in.
Luckily, I didn't want to blend in. I wanted to stand out, and what better way to accomplish that than with a statement piece. I figured if any of those people were anything like me, remembering a name after a fleeting moment, or a random meeting, is next to impossible.
After a while, everybody is a Sally or a Monique or a Sarah, but not everybody is "that girl" wearing those camouflage skinnies with that dope peplum top, or "that girl" with the stink breath, and fingers crossed, I pray it was the former, as I hope my Tic Tacs didn't fail me.
Either way, in a room full of strangers networking like there's no tomorrow, for better or for worse, you want to be remembered. You want to make an impression that will last after whatever person you're trying to impress gets home and tosses all the business cards in the trash.
And trust me, if you check out awesome Blogger Bobby Austin's video above where I'm featured from 1:56 to 2:07 there was a hell of a lot of business cards to be had, as the place was packed with bloggers who were all dressed to the nines, vying for the attention of their peers.
This can be a bit intimidating especially if you go to something like that solo dolo as I did, and I knew no one there. So, you can only imagine how nerve wracking it was for a person like me who is generally not aggressive in social situations unless Jose Cuervo or Jack Daniels shows up, then that's a whole other story.
But, without that liquid courage coaxing that social butterfly out of me, I still had to muster up the balls to approach people like one of my favorite Bloggers, Krystal, from This Time Tomorrow, and start conversations that may have been forgettable, but boy, did you see "that girl" in those camouflage skinnies and dope peplum top. Fingers crossed something stuck, and I left an impression.
As cooler temperatures roll in, incorporating a fantastic lightweight jacket into your closet will allow you to achieve your RepeatFix throughout the season. A utility jacket as seen here and here is the perfect transitional outerwear. Its lightweight status make it ideal for layering with other pieces, since you won't have to tackle issues relating to bulkiness or overheating. Additionally, this piece can easily be dressed up or down, which allow you to seamlessly go from day to night. Below are two different ways I styled my utility jacket and links to help you achieve the looks.
Happy Tuesday! Yesterday was the last official day of Summer as we know it, and if you're anything like me, a little part of you literally fell out and died.
I don't know why the powers that be came up with the brilliant idea to cut the best season of the year short for no good God damn reason, other than to demoralize an entire population, or perhaps one of those geniuses had a thing against fun.
I mean seriously, if you wanna do some good in the world, shave some weeks off of Winter, add some days to Spring, and leave Summer alone so I can continue to wear bright colors like these skinnies paired with a tee, vest, and pumps without violating any ridiculous fashion rule.
Besides, I need the extra time to go on that random spur of the moment road trip I've been planning in my head, and putting off for that right spontaneous time.
It's just not right, but if the melting ice caps and random earthquakes are any indication, they, the powers that be better be careful because clearly Mother Nature is not to be fooled with.
